The Kotowa farm is one of the best producers in Panama and always ranked in the top tier. Now in its third generation, it has several outstanding plots of land including this particular one from a portion of the farm called Las Brujas. Kotowa Farm is a historic farm that was established in 1918 by Mr. Mclntyre. It is located at the foot of the Baru Volcano in western Panama. Using the abundant water flowing from the volcano, they built a hydroelectrically powered coffee selection facility, and began everything from cultivation to selection and drying under natural conditions.
Ricardo Koyner, the third-generation coffee producer and trained agronomist who currently owns the farm, is highly regarded around the world as a leading export on specialty coffee cultivation in Panama. Ricardo also owns different coffee shops located throughout Panama City, including other area outside the city. Most of the coffee produced from Kotowa is consumed within the country, resulting in low quantities available for exporting. In 2016, Cafe Kotowa was awarded the 3rd edition of the Best Producer Panama Cup which recognises the producer whose coffees make it to the final round of each category in the Best of Panama competition. It has won awards at numerous competitions, and the “Kotowa” name is well known as a brand.
